Mama mama mantra
Silkscreen printing on canvas
270 x 81.5 cm
The artwork aims to explore phonological
repetition in the form of visual language. The addressed
term “mẹ”, “mother” in Vietnamese, relates to my personal experience of becoming a mother and, at
the same time, living away from my mother-land.
I question if can one forget their homeland’s colour, smell, and sound if they cannot see it, touch it or talk in their familiar language. Would such a night-time mantra be able to take the form of the means to preserve the memory of a homeland despite all geographical distance and time?
